History

Gavião Real (Harpia) é a mais pesada e uma das maiores aves de rapina do mundo, com envergadura de 2,5 metros e peso de até 10 quilogramas. Gavião Real são referência ao penacho da cabeça característico da espécie com o formato semelhante ao de uma coroa, essa ave são de florestas tropicais e a espécie se dispersa geograficamente do México, Bolívia e Argentina e também em grande parte do Brasil, notadamente no Amazonas, vivendo em árvores altas, onde fazem seus ninhos. Infelizmente o Gavião Real (Harpia) está ameaçado de extinção. Em suas garras pode erguer mais de ¾ de seu peso. É a águia mais pesada da atualidade, é rápida e posante em suas investidas.
Dessa ave originou-se o nome do nosso clube, fundado em 18 de Abril na Igreja Adventista do 7° dia - Independência Montes Claros MG.
